Gentle Yoga Course (5 sessions)

The course meets five consecutive Tuesdays from 5:30–7:00pm PDT.
In-person attendees must show proof of vaccination and wear a face mask indoors.
Registrants for online will receive a link at least an hour before the first class.
New to Yoga? Gentle Yoga can be practiced by anyone at any age. Take your time, learning step by step with lots of support and guidance. We introduce classical Hatha Yoga with yoga asanas (postures), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, mantra chanting and yoga philosophy. Find the adaptations that are right for your body. Enjoy increased strength, flexibility, stamina—and peace of mind. Build a personal practice that will stick. Gain perfect health by adopting the yogic lifestyle. Yoga is for every body!
The course will help you understand the system that is followed in all Sivananda open classes. (Gentle Yoga 2 is an additional 5-session course which covers the remaining points—plus one more posture and breathing technique.)
Curriculum
• Step-by-step guide in 11 of the basic 12 postures, with modifications and explanation of benefits
• What is classical yoga? Intro to the tradition of lineage of the yoga masters
• What is the purpose and what are the methods of classical yoga?
• Basic philosophy about happiness, health, life, freedom
• Difference between yoga asana and physical exercises
• Yogic techniques of breathing
• Yogic techniques of relaxation
