Positive Thinking 1

Explores the art and practice of positive thinking as a way to lead to a happier and more balanced life. You’ll begin to examine the nature of your thoughts and learn to transform them, making way for a calmer mind and better relationships.

Topics include:

  • The nature of thought
  • The nature of the self according to Vedanta
  • How to deal with unwanted thoughts
  • Breaking negative thought patterns
  • Transforming negative emotions
  • Managing the stresses of daily life
  • How to turn obstacles to one’s advantage

Duration: 5 sessions, once per week, 90 minutes each
Tuition: $125 (members $115)

This is a helpful precursor to the Meditation 1 course

Positive Thinking 2

Continue exploring supportive attitudes and techniques, now based on the four classical paths of Yoga. The practice of Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga and Jnana Yoga all lead to freedom. The paths are many, but the Truth is one. 

Develop your personal strategy for growth. Establish good habits. By regularly doing a little good at a time in a balanced manner, you will find peace of mind. With careful introspection, you are sure to see the results.

    I was looking for yoga presented in the classical Indian style that teaches how the body and mind should work together. I found this yoga center years ago and have been coming here as often as I can ever since. They’ve moved to a larger house with lots of green space, beautiful trees, lush green grass and flowers, all making this a warm, welcoming, relaxed and peaceful oasis in the middle of the city to practice yoga and learn the classical yoga teachings. I especially enjoy the relaxed, non-competitive teaching method they use. Sometimes I come here just to sit quietly and read.

    Sivananda Yoga means so much to me. It has helped me for many years and especially more recently with recovering from a major heart attack.     This isn't a random yoga studio. Instead, it's a historical and traditional yoga training center and community.

    I have been practicing yoga for over ten years. However, this is the first place for me to truly learn how to do each pose correctly.

    The staff is very welcoming, caring, experienced, and really commits to teaching pure and classical yoga.

    Sivananda Yoga in combination with the AA program was the only way I could stay clean and sober. For the first time in my life I felt a true "light" or God Consciousness. I lost weight without any struggling. I gradually started eating better and more in line with the way Sivananda Yoga cookbook suggest. I started hiking and praying and thinking of my life as a spiritual journey. What I most want to emphasize and what is most amazing to me is that the physical, mental and emotional changes occured effortlessly. Before there was always a struggle to keep the weight off, to stop substance abuse, and to maintain a spiritual practice.     I've been doing yoga and meditation regularly since 1971. My husband, Dr. Bill Levacy, originally referred me to the Center in 2009 and I have been regularly attending classes since. As far as I'm concerned, Sivananda offers the best (and least expensive!) yoga classes in LA - if you want the real deal. Plus, they consistently offer excellent courses and various "satellite" programs, such as Positive Thinking, Ayurvedic treatments and now even Yoga Teacher Training! It is a non-profit organization and everyone working there is a volunteer. The new LA Center in the Crenshaw area is wonderful! Spacious, warm and friendly. We are lucky to have such a gem in our community!
