Celebrating Swami Sivananda’s Mahasamadhi – Puja

Wednesday, July 14, 2021 @ (PDT) 7:30 PM 8:45 PM UTC+0

ONLINE Puja with Sivananda Ashram Vedanta Yoga Farm

In 1963, Swami Sivananda attained the highest goal. In his words, “My purpose is achieved…. I have risen above ignorance. I have risen above my knowledge of this seeming universe. It is not only escape from misery and grief. I enjoy the joy eternal, the joy unspeakable, the joy supreme… I know nothing but joy limitless and unbounded.” The last dictated sentence of Swami Sivananda was “Happiness comes when the individual merges in God,” which you can find in Elixir Divine, his final book.

A revered saint of modern times Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres. Born in south India in 1887, he served for many years as a medical doctor before renouncing worldly life and establishing an ashram in Rishikesh, north India in 1932.

His mission was to serve humanity through yoga and in 1936 founded the Divine Life Society. He developed the Yoga of Synthesis, an amalgamation of the Four Paths of Yoga that he summarised as: “Serve, love, give, purify, meditate, realize.”  He is the author of more than 200 books on all aspects of yoga providing spiritual guidance to millions around the world. Though he never left his native India his teachings quickly spread internationally, leaving a legacy of love, peace and knowledge still unfolding today.

We honor his generous spirit and sincere love for all. We will read accounts of his final days, as well as perform a Puja, Bhakti Yoga ritual to invoke his blessings.

You are welcome to prepare your own offerings of flowers and prasad at home.
