Ayurvedic Management of PMS—and other menstrual disorders
- A woman’s menstrual cycle is nature’s way of cleansing the body and mind every month. It is a time for rest and for allowing the body to rejuvenate. However, for 3 out of 4 women, this time comes with unpleasant physical and psychological symptoms—what is commonly known as Premenstrual Syndrome or PMS. In many women, these symptoms can persist through menstruation as cramps, heavy bleeding, bloating, and so on.
- Ayurveda the ancient science of health and well-being, offers simple, yet profound principles to understand the root cause of PMS and other menstrual disorders. Through a basic understanding of Dosha (energetics governing all physical and mental activities), its imbalances and how it shows up in our bodies and minds (including in our menstrual cycle), Ayurveda offers a natural way to take control of and manage our well-being.
- In this session, we will begin with a quick recap of the basic Ayurvedic concepts like Dosha and then move into the Ayurvedic explanation of PMS and other menstrual disorders. We’ll discuss simple diet and lifestyle suggestions to help manage the symptoms, and to prevent or minimize it. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion
Teacher
Based in San Francisco, Lalitha Vaidyanathan is a Sivananda yoga teacher, and lifelong practitioner of meditation. She is a certified Ayurvedic Health Practitioner trained by the Kerala Ayurveda Academy in the Bay Area. Lalitha has used the principles of Ayurveda to manage many of her personal health situations including PMS. She is passionate about sharing whatever she knows about this ancient science to help others heal and be well.
