How to assess and influence the state of your mind: Understanding the Energies of Satva, Rajas and Tamas
The simplest definition of sattva is balance, rajas is action, and tamas is inertia. All matter, that is everything in the universe, contains and is influenced by these gunas. Our thoughts, emotions, intentions, responses, behavior, all the information that comes through our senses, and everything that has form and name in the material world—everything can be understood in terms of these three gunas. The most important contribution of this concept is that these gunas not only help us understand our personality but also direct the functioning of our mind and ultimately our experiences in life. These mental traits are not life sentences; they can be increased or reduced by the choices we make. Since everything in the world around us has these same three qualities, bringing in those objects, experiences, interactions through all our senses will increase or decrease the gunas in our mind and personality. This understanding brings us closer to knowing how we can transform our lives and bring in greater harmony and happiness. This is the basis for Ayurvedic psychology. In this workshop, you will have an opportunity to assess which of these qualities are predominant in your state of mind and learn practical ways to increase satva and reduce tamas.
