Join us for our monthly book study as we explore positive emotional and spiritual responses to the difficult challenges that lie ahead.
It has been said that we live in 'interesting' times ... people are experiencing unusually difficult challenges, not only in their personal and work lives but we see unbelievable horror and violence erupting daily on a global scale. Some even suggest that civilization, as we know it, is on the verge of collapse. How emotionally and spiritually prepared are we for this uncertain future? For yogis, times such as these provide great opportunities for practicing equanimity and the deepening of emotional and spiritual maturity. This prepares us to face the unknown with strength, calm and compassion and to also guide others through it.
Swami Omkarananda and Rev. Peter Rood will guide us gently through the challenging ideas contained in Caroline Baker's book 'Navigating the coming Chaos - a handbook for inner transition'. Together they will demonstrate how it is possible to weave a web of interdependent relationships which can support, nurture and strengthen us through the challenges and chaos that lie ahead.
Swami Omkarananda is a radiant Yogini renunciate who has more than 25 years of experience in Yoga and meditation. She has been the director of the Sivananda Los Angeles Yoga Center since January 2008 and before that was assistant director at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm.
Originally from Australia, she moved to the UK in 1973 as a newly qualified doctor. She later qualified and worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS. She has also worked in management development, change management and stress management. At the age of 40, she became involved in Yoga, gave up paid work and moved to live in an ashram.
She took her TTC in Kerala in 2004 and moved to the Yoga Farm in California. She took ATTC in Madurai in 2009 and sannyas in 2011. Swami Omkarananda is passionate about Yoga psychology and philosophy, bringing together sustainability, the environment and permaculture, and helping people to develop spiritually.
She has certificates in Permaculture Design and Advanced Permaculture from Mid West Permaculture and in Los Angeles she has established a permaculture garden at the staff house. The Yoga center is a designated ‘Green Yoga’ studio and also hosts many activities of the local Transition group, raising awareness of sustainability in the local community.
