Join Allie Reynolds, intern at Hermosa Oil Campaign of Heal the Bay, who will present the issues around oil drilling in the Santa Monica Bay. Learn how you can get involved ...

Currently, there is no oil drilling in the Santa Monica Bay. However, there is an oil recovery project proposed for Hermosa Beach. The project would last for 35 years, would consist of 30 drill wells and 4 injection wells on a 1.3 acre plot of land surrounded by houses and businesses in Hermosa Beach. At Heal The Bay, we are not only concerned about the health and safety of Hermosans, but also for the entire Santa Monica Bay. As stated in the Environmental Impact Report, there is a 34% risk of an oil spill. If oil reaches the water, the impact will be significant and unavoidable and could affect the entire bay. We are also concerned that this project will set a precedence for more oil exploration in our bay. We are finally seeing a comeback in marine life and water quality in the bay, and we are concerned that oil exploration will undermine this progress and threaten marine heal a 34% risk of an oil spill.
