And nakshatra also means one that never decays’: their cosmic remit is to be the guardians of the soul during its journey through many human lifetimes and bring divine knowledge of the Deity. \nThe original nakshatra division was on 28 sections but this is not longer so prevalent\, although some techniques will use 28 nakshatras. Nakshatras division of the sky into 27 sections relates to the Moon as it stays in one Nakshatra for a day. Each Nakshatra compromises 13°20″ of the ecliptic – the degrees covered by the Moon in a 24 hour day. \nEach Nakshatra is a group of several thousands of fixed stars. Each Rashi sign has 2 ¼ Nakshatras. Nava Grahas or nine planets rule the 27 Nakshatras. Nakshatras are divided into three cycles of nine\, which are always ruled by the planets in the same order. The nine planets are Ketu\, Venus\, Sun\, Moon\, Mars\, Rahu\, Jupiter\, Saturn and Mercury. The 28th intercalary nakshatra is called Abhijit.
