Introduction to Ayurveda the ancient science of healing and wellbeing
Ayurveda is the ancient science or knowledge of life. It traces its beginnings to the Vedas,
dating back thousands of years. It is a broad and deep body of knowledge that emphasizes
prevention and wellness through proper diet and lifestyle. However, Ayurveda also includes
treatment modalities such as herbs, panchakarma (detox/cleansing) and even surgery.
In this Introduction to Ayurveda course, you will learn the basic concepts of Ayurveda as well as the basics of Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle to maintain a healthy life. Over 5 sessions, we will
draw from verses in the original texts to cover topics such as:
• History and origins of Ayurveda
• Definition of health in Ayurveda
• The five natural elements and the Doshas
• Causes and stages of disease in Ayurveda
• Simple principles of lifestyle to maintain health (Dinacharya)
• Simple principles of nutrition to maintain health
