Homa is a powerful Vedic fire ceremony invoking the Divne force to minimize negativities and aiding to our transformation. It is as an offering of all material, mental, emotional and karmic. 

This Homa is dedicated to the Divine Mother Durga. Goddess Durga symbolizes the positive energy known as divine shakti (power) that guards against negativities. It is said thtat Goddess Durga was created by Lord Vishnu as a warrior goddess to protect and safeguard the Good. Her divine shakti contains the combined energies of all the Gods in the form of weapons and emblems; Durga is the power that preserves righteousness and Dharma. 

This Durga Homa is performed by Swami Vashistananda in the presence of Acharya Swami Sitaramananda.

Swami Vashistananda

Swami Vashistananda comes from the Namboodri lineage in Southern India, Kerala which is one of the oldest and traditional priest lineages in all of India.  He was the personal priest of Swami Vishnudevananda, the great yoga master from India that started the International Sivananda Yoga Organization and has been a long-time teacher of bhakti and vedanta in the Sivananda organization ever since.  He has studied the vedic rituals and mantras since he was a young boy and graduated from vedanta school and was personally initiated by Swami Vishnudevananda.  He conducts daily rituals at the ashram to all the temples, shrines, and altars and does the arati every morning and evening at satsang. He has been at the Yoga farm since October 2014.


Acharya Swami Sitaramananda

Acharya Swami Sitaramananda is a senior disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda and Acharya of the US West Coast centers and Ashram. She is also the Acharya of the Sivananda mission in Asia: Vietnam, Japan and China. She met Swami Vishnudevananda at the Val Morin Yoga Camp in 1981 and had served in the headquarters ashram in Canada for 6 years before Swamiji sent her to many different centers and ashrams, notably San Francisco center in 1989 and from 1995 as full-time director of Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in Grass Valley, CA. Swami Sitaramananda has taught many international Teachers' Training Courses in California, Vietnam, Taiwan and India and is also teaching regularly at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, Nassau, Bahamas.

She is the author of Positive Thinking Manual, a compiler of Essentials of Yoga Practice and Philosophy translated in Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese and Swamiji Said: A Collection of Teachings by Swami Vishnudevananda in His Own Words. She is responsible for the Vietnamese translation of The Completed Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnudevananda.
